Received via email from the Gasparilla Film Festival:

Another festival season is upon us! We are now accepting submissions for our next festival held February 27 - March 2, 2008. You are our friends from 2007 and we hope that you consider us for the upcoming season!

We are returning this year bigger and better and providing our filmmakers a platform to screen their films in the great city of Tampa and have a great time doing so.

We are planning lots on the agenda for this year in the way of filmmaker panels, networking events with potential distributors and filmgoers and plenty of fun and sun in the best time of the year to be in Tampa.

We hope that you will consider submitting and returning to see us. For more information, please visit our site. The Gasparilla Film Festival is run and sponsored by the Tampa Film Institute, a Florida-based non-profit entity.

  1. This sounds like quite a good time. I´m always happy to see more and more festivals happening every year.

  2. I know, me too. Last year’s Gasparilla Film Fest was pretty good.

  3. Hi there!

I am the Director of the Miss Gasparilla Pageant. www.GasparillaPageant.com.

Last year, we were considering holding the Pageant at the Cuban Club in Ybor, but could not quite coordinate the dates with them, unfortunately. We ended up holding the event at a nice hotel with LOADS of contestants and celebrities. All the T.V. stations were there.

While touring the Cuban Club, the Manager of the Club told me of the Ghosts Of Gasparilla film that had been shot there at his club and about the new Gasparilla Film Festival. He tried to put me in contact with you/the Festival as a possible venue for the Pageant Winners to be attendees/part of/”celebrity guests at”, etc. His logic was that it would be neat for us to have a place/appearance in your event and also bring the beautiful Gaparilla royalty to the Film Festoval. Wim-win for both of us. Time slipped away and I did not make the connection! This year, I am trying for an earlier start!

We have had an awesome year and plans for this year’s Pageant, set for January 13th, 2008 at the Westin Harbour Island Hotel, are underway and going strong!

I am writing because I would like to request your help. This year, after we crown the new set of “royalty”, 4 ladies ages 14 to 40-something, we would love to have them have part in the various festivities within the Festival, screenings, etc.

I would love it if anyone from the Fil Festival might like to judge the Pageant. *We really need all the exposure we can get and I would certainly be able to provide you with space at the Westin January 13th for a display, let you sell tickets, etc. for the Film Festival, present your information on-microphone, etc. If you had screening projector equipment, we could even let you run a trailer or promo for the event at the Pageant. The space/time at the Westin would be yours to do whatever you need, even hold a press conference, etc.???

Additionally, if any filmmakers are looking for neat content for an interesting “documentary”, the behind the scens of this Pageant, with lead-up through crowning, would be fun! Opportunity abounds for intersting viewpoints from contestants, mothers, etc.

I think your event looks like the coolest thing Tampa has seen in a long time. I VERY MUCH HOPE we can work together!

    Please let me know!

    Respectfully,

    Stephanie Sims

  4. Stephanie — We’ve talked via email, but I just wanted to respond here also. I’m glad you were able to connect with the Gasparilla Film Festival staff and I hope you can partner with them. Please keep me posted so I can write about it! Thanks.
