Rod Serling
December 25, 1924 — June 28, 1975
Lakeview Cemetery, Interlaken, NY

Rod Serling was a gifted script-writer who gravitated toward social commentary but found that corporate sponsors were loathe to underwrite anything that might create controversy.  Realizing advertisers would approve scripts that took place in a fictitious world, Rod developed The Twilight Zone whose out-of-this-world format lent him license to skewer innumerable previously untouchable topics such as bigotry, aging, capital punishment, and sexism.

June 26, 2007 at 7:05 am | In Filmmakers, Movies, Tampa Bay Area, Film Critics, Contests/Giveaways | No Comments
  • The St. Pete Times’ film critic Steve Persall might have some movie tickets to give away on his blog Reeling in the Years. I love free stuff, but I LUV free movie tickets!
  • Received via email: La Vie en Rose (opening at the Tampa Theatre June 29) is released by Picturehouse, the theatrical motion picture company that produces, acquires and releases feature films, and has brought to the screen some of our favorite films including A Prairie Home Companion, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Gracie. This summer, from Picturehouse, you can look forward to El Cantante, a music-infused biography of Puerto Rican, salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe, starring Jennifer Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony; and Rocket Science, the first narrative film from Jeffrey Blitz (Spellbound) which premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival where it received rave reviews and won the Directing Prize and many more. For more information about upcoming releases visit www.picturehouse.com.
  • Congratulations to local filmmakers Marcus Koch and Joe Davison for the recent press attention their new movie 100 Tears recently received in the Tampa Tribune. I wasn’t able to attend the movie’s premiere at Channelside Cinemas this past weekend, but I heard that the turnout was good and the film was well received.

casting call for the documentary the ghosts of ybor

June 23, 2007 at 7:14 pm | In Casting Calls, Movies, Tampa Bay Area | No Comments

Received via email:

Title: The Ghosts of Ybor: The Documentary
Production Company: 1 Day Films
Producers: Pete and Paul Guzzo

Dates: August 4, 5, 11, and 12

1 Day Films is now casting lead and bit roles in upcoming reenactments for its documentary The Ghosts of Ybor . There are no lines in the reenactments, but the actors have to be able to pull off their characters’ demeanors. Looking like the characters (Charlie Wall and Santo Trafficante, Jr.) is not required, but is a plus.

The documentary covers the lives of Ybor City gangster Charlie Wall and Tampa mafioso Santo Trafficante, Jr. The above August dates are for the Charlie Wall portion of the documentary. Trafficante’s portion will be shot at some time in September.

The people in the reenactments are: Charlie Wall, Baby Joe Diez, Nick Sacglioni, Santo Trafficante, Palusa Diaz, AND NUMEROUS other Anglo, Sicilian, and Cuban gangsters and bystanders. WE WILL ALSO NEED A TON OF EXTRAS. Having your own wardrobe from the 1930s, 40s or 50s is a MAJOR PLUS.

Character Descriptions:

Charlie Wall – Will be portrayed as a 60-year old and a 77-year old. Tall, long face, white hair. CANNOT be Italian or Latin.

Baby Joe Diez – Spanish, under 5’10″ (shorter is better), VERY muscular and in good shape. MUST have driver’s license. Late 30s to late 40s.

Nick Scaglione – Italian in his early 40s with blue eyes and dark but graying hair and sheepish demeanor.

Joe Bedami – Italian in his 40s. Short hair and balding and overweight. Has a menacing stare yet pleasant demeanor.

Santo Trafficante – Italian, balding and has a kind face. Looks like an accountant.

Visit the following links for pictures of these characters (except Baby Joe – we have yet to find a picture of him):

http://aceatkins.com/extras/mafia.html - Bedami, Scaglioni (picture is 10–15 years older than we will portray him) and Trafficante.

http://www.hcso.tampa.fl.us/Photo%20Gallery/Images/Bolita.gif - Charlie Wall

REMEMBER, we are ALSO looking for a number of other supporting roles. PLEASE INCLUDE A HEADSHOT.

This is a nonpaying job – SORRY.

If interested, email your head shots and resumes to tooprod(at)gmail.com and paulguzzo(at)hotmail.com.

Visit www.YborGhosts.com or www.GhostsofYbor.com to learn more about this film.
