The Gasparilla Film Festival, which takes place February 28 - March 4, 2007, is currently seeking submissions in the following categories:

Latin Panorama - These are films shot in or that are about Latin America.

New Horizons- These are films that would qualify as experimental.

Shorts - These are films that are under 60 minutes and can be of all different genres.

There is a music sub-category for music videos or films about music in this section of the festival. The music videos must be no more than 5 minutes in length. The festival seeks to showcase the connection between music and film in this category.

Fun & Fear - This is the section for comedies and horrors.

Special American Indie Screenings - These are feature films done in America.They can be in all different genres.

The festival has added a new category as well. It is the Young Filmmaker section. The Festival is accepting films of all genres in this category from high school and college age students. The students must be no older than 25 years of age. The Young Filmmaker who wins the award - sponsored by the South Tampa Chamber - in this category will receive a small cash prize.

Prizes (some are cash) will be awarded in all categories and some are as follows: Best Feature, Best Short, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Cinematograpy, Best Ensemble Cast, Best Latin Film, Best Horror, Best Comedy, Best Latin Music Video (Latin means beat), Best Music Video or Film about Music, the Audience Award and more.

Awards for the films will be determined by a jury made up of industry veterans, filmmakers and critics. Filmmakers selected for the festival will be treated to a FILMMAKER ONLY day that includes a Cocktail Reception, A Filmmaker Only Dinner and After Party.

To submit a film, please log onto our website - www.gasparillafilmfestival.com. Look under filmmaker and click on the link to withoutabox.com. All submissions are currently being handled through our online partner. Final submission deadline is January 8, 2007.

The Gasparilla Film Festival is presented by Wachovia and Wachovia Insurance Services. The Festival is also being sponsored in part by the Tampa Bay Film Commission and the Tampa Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, the St. Petersburg Times, tbt*, MORETV-32, Channelside Theaters, Hilton Garden Inn- Ybor, Navigar Advisors, TECO Streetcar Line, Graffit Design, Doc Green’s and Streeter Printing and Graphics, Inc.

The Gasparilla Film Festival is produced annually by The Tampa Film Institute.
