premiere of local short film draw 3! on november 17
November 3, 2006 at 1:11 pm | In Events, Filmmakers, Movies, Tampa Bay Area |Do you like the game UNO? The characters of the local short film Draw 3! sure do. Written as part of a local screenwriting competition, Draw 3! is a
mockumentary about three championship UNO players from Florida whose lives revolve around this family card game in what can only be described as ‘unhealthy ways.’
Melvin is the overly aggressive do-little whose approach to the game is one of pure aggression towards his opponent…no matter who they are…Melvin looks at UNO in the same way Phil Helmouth looks at poker.
Rhonda is the enthusiast. She has two great loves in her life: UNO and success. While the latter has escaped her, she scrounges for anything that can merge her passions and make her the “happiest damn girl in Tampa.”
Javier is the man-child prodigy who has a genetic connection to UNO that haunts him to this day.
Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the film is the fact that each of the players was BASED on real life people (all of whom make a cameo in the film).
Draw 3! will premiere on Friday, November 17, at 8 p.m. at the Masque Community Theatre in Temple Terrace (8825 56th Street North, Temple Terrace, south of Busch Blvd. next to the Sweetbay Supermarket).
The premiere will include a gag reel and audition bits, and cast and crew will attend the screening. Admission is free, with donations to the Masque Community Theatre requested.
(Draw 3! was written by Juan Carlos Miller, directed by Kevin Hoag, produced by John Maslanka and stars Genevieve Alleyne, Adam Locascio, Toby Martini, Henry Pollack and Jackie Torres.)
