the coffeehouse film review is back
November 25, 2005 at 6:25 am | In Events, Film Series, Movies, Tampa Bay Area |Here’s one more thing to be thankful for this holiday season. The Coffeehouse Film Review, temporarily on hiatus because of the closing of Romeo’s Studio 1515 Coffeehouse, is returning in January. It will now be held the second Friday of the month at the International Bazaar at 1600 E. 8th Avenue in the Centro Ybor Complex in Ybor City. I’m told that International Bazaar has an amazing sound system and has seating for up to 400 people.
The Coffeehouse Film Review is a monthly showcase for local filmmakers to screen their movies. It’s free and open to the public. I’ve been to about 3 or 4 CFRs in the past. I’ve seen a lot of interesting movies, a few excellent movies, and some “what is the world were they thinking?” movies. But the most important thing is that I’ve been able to see films made by local filmmakers with local actors. There are many talented people in the Tampa Bay Area and oftentimes not many venues for them to showcase their work. The Coffeehouse Film Review is the perfect solution.
Rick Springfield’s — er, I mean Gershman’s — blog mentions that the CFR might change its name, which makes sense since it’s no longer being held in a coffeehouse.
Mark your calendar for 8 p.m., Friday, January 13th and come out and support our local filmmakers. If you don’t have fun and see some interesting movies, I’ll refund your admission fee. I did mention that this is free, right?
