give my regards to broadway
August 1, 2005 at 5:25 pm | In Miscellaneous, Movies, Theater |If there are any fans of Broadway musicals out there, run, don’t walk, to the nearest video store or library and rent the 6-disc documentary Broadway, the American Musical. I’m only on disc 1 and I’m entranced. The marvelous (and still youthful) Julie Andrews narrates this fascinating look into the history of the Broadway musical. The first episode covers the history of Broadway, how things got started and the founding fathers and mothers (including Florenz Ziegfield, George M. Cohen, Bert Williams and Fanny Brice). The second episode — which I’ve only just started — covers the 1920s. It’s wonderful, really.
